When we look at a room our eyes automatically adjust and the brain works out which colour is white, which colour is red, etc. The camera however, is not so clever, and usually we allow the camera to work out which colour is which. This is called White Balance and admittedly, most of the time the camera gets it right, especially outdoors. But when it comes to being inside and also if the lights are on, the camera and its White Balance can get thrown. This is because the lights give off a yellow glow which is often taken to be white. The photos taken on the left are taken with the lights off and with a tripod, and the photos taken on the right are with the lights on and on Auto. Which do you think look best?
