The first view of a property nowadays is usually online and a good first impression counts more than ever. Many estate agents take images of their properties for sale or rental on Auto, and some of the photos are not bad, but look at the difference between hand holding a camera on Auto and using a tripod on manual settings. Here are some examples which show the difference between photos taken with a good camera on Auto, and ones taken using carefully selected manual settings before being professionally processed. The photo on the left has been taken on a tripod with manual settings and then processed to make the room look brighter but it also gives an idea of what the view is like from the room. In the photo on the right, the furniture is dark, there are dark patches of shadows in the room and you are left with no idea of what is outside the window because it is what I call “blown out”.
